wanderlust
[won-der-luhst] noun. Origin: German wandern (wander) lust. Definition: A strong, innate desire to rove or travel about.
No, we are not talking about the awful Bjork song, the Hollywood movie starring Jennifer Aniston, nor the festival in Colorado. We are talking about an addiction. An addiction to travel. An addiction to meandering in unfamiliar places. An addiction experiencing the world fully through all five senses.
WARNING FROM THE SURGEON GENERAL: Those who indulge their wanderlusting desires risk becoming addicted after just one, repeat: one, exposure to venturing forth into the world. Undertake expeditions into unknown territories at your own risk. Affects of wanderlust may or may not be permanent. Symptoms may include, but are not limited to, the following:
-irresistibly strong urges to skip class on sunny days
-a tendency to let one's mind entertain thoughts of travel
-an inability to use "impossible" in conjunction with adventure
-an ability to travel very far on very little with very little
-a desire to try everything once (well, everything that won't cause lasting harm..)
-a propensity for heading in a random direction without a destination
Perhaps I should double-check with my parents but I think it's pretty safe to assume I am, down to my very essence, affected by this most atrociously alluring affliction. This is by no means a new condition of mine, however, as years past demonstrate so perhaps I've allowed my wanderlust to morph into an outlook on life accidentally...
Whatever the case, I've realized I've an interminable "fernweh" (ache for travel), but perhaps it's best to let the words of adventures to come demonstrate this for themselves.
